Discord’s upload limit in 2026
Discord lowered the free upload limit to 10 MB in 2024 and has since been rolling out higher limits of 20–25 MB to some free accounts. Nitro Basic raises it to 50 MB and full Nitro to 500 MB.
Because the limit now depends on your account, Asset Compressor defaults to 9 MB, which works for everyone. If Discord tells you your limit is higher, enter 19 or 24 MB instead for better quality.
Getting the best quality under the limit
A fixed file size is spread over the length of the clip, so length matters most. 30 seconds in 9 MB leaves about 2.3 Mbps – clean 720p. Three minutes in the same 9 MB leaves under 400 kbps, which only looks acceptable at around 360p.
Asset Compressor picks the resolution for you so the picture stays clean instead of turning into blocks, and it budgets the audio so there is enough left for the video. Trimming to the moment that matters, or removing audio you don’t need, gives the biggest quality boost.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my video still slightly over the limit?
Very long clips can’t always reach tiny targets. Asset Compressor automatically re-encodes once or twice with a corrected bitrate, and warns you if the file is still over. Trim the clip, remove the audio or choose a lower resolution and try again.
What is Discord’s file size limit without Nitro?
10 MB on many accounts, with 20–25 MB rolling out to some accounts during 2026. Nitro Basic allows 50 MB and Nitro 500 MB. The 9 MB default works on all free accounts.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. It works in Chrome on Android and in Safari on iPhone and iPad (iOS 16.4 or newer). Keep the tab open while the video is processing.
Is my clip uploaded anywhere?
