How to crop an image online
- 1
Add your photos
Drop one image, many images or a whole folder onto the tool. Subfolders are included.
- 2
Open the crop editor
Press Crop above the preview. Drag the box or its handles, or pick a locked shape such as 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9 and then fine-tune the position.
- 3
Crop everything to one shape
To crop every image the same way, choose a shape in the Crop section of the settings. Each image is cropped around its center. A crop you drew by hand on one image overrides the shape for that image.
- 4
Apply and download
Click Apply to create the cropped files, then download one image, a ZIP that keeps your folders, or save back to the folder in Chrome and Edge.
Free-form or fixed-shape cropping
The crop editor opens on the original photo. In free mode you can drag any edge or corner to keep exactly the part you want. Choose one of the fixed shapes – 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 2:3, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 9:16 – and the box keeps that proportion while you move and resize it. The editor shows the size in pixels that the result will have, so you know what you are about to download.
The box also responds to the keyboard: focus it and use the arrow keys to nudge it a pixel at a time, or hold Shift to move faster. That makes precise adjustments possible on phones and trackpads where dragging is fiddly.
Crop first, then resize and compress
Cropping happens before anything else. If you also set a maximum width or height, it is applied to the cropped area, so a 4000 × 3000 photo cropped to a square and limited to 1080 px comes out at 1080 × 1080. Filters, the output format, the quality slider, a target file size and the print resolution all work together with the crop in the same pass.
Because the crop changes the picture, the result is always saved as a new file, even when you keep the original format. The never-larger rule for plain compression only applies when nothing about the picture was changed.
Cropping a whole folder to the same shape
Product photos, team portraits and gallery images often need the same proportion. Pick a shape in the settings and every image in the batch is cropped around its center. If a few images need a different framing, open them one by one and draw their own crop. The images with their own crop are counted in the settings so you can see how many exceptions you have made.
The preview above the list always shows the crop that will be applied to the selected image, so you can click through the list and check the framing before you apply.
Private by design
Decoding, cropping and encoding all run inside your browser with web workers. The photos are not sent to a server, and the crop editor works on the copy of the photo that is already on your screen. Re-encoded files do not keep EXIF metadata such as camera model or GPS position.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce image quality?
Cropping itself only removes pixels outside the box; it does not blur what is left. The cropped picture is encoded again, so with a lossy format such as JPEG or WebP the quality slider decides how much detail is kept. Choose PNG for a lossless result.
Can I crop many images at once?
Yes. Choose a shape in the Crop section and every image is cropped around its center. You can still draw a custom crop on individual images, and those override the shape.
Can I crop to an exact pixel size?
The editor shows the pixel size of your selection while you draw it. For a specific output size, crop to the right shape and then set a maximum width or height in the resize options. Images are never enlarged, so a crop smaller than your limit keeps its own size.
Are my photos uploaded to crop them?
No. Cropping runs entirely in your browser, so your photos stay on your device.
Will the crop change the file format?
Not unless you choose a different output format. A JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG. If you pick another format in the settings, the cropped images are converted at the same time.
