Best for photos, not for graphics
A photo saved as PNG can easily be 5–10× larger than the same photo as a high-quality JPG. Converting is one of the quickest ways to free up disk space or meet upload size limits.
For logos, screenshots with text or anything with transparency, prefer WebP or keep PNG: JPEG can blur sharp edges and fills transparent areas with white.
Screenshots from phones
Phones save screenshots as PNG. If they contain photos or video frames, converting to JPG shrinks them a lot; for screenshots of text, 90% quality keeps letters crisp.
Meeting upload and email limits
Job portals, government forms and email providers often reject large attachments. A 6 MB PNG photo usually becomes 500 KB–1 MB as a JPG at 86% quality, and far less if you also set a maximum width of 1600 or 2000 pixels in the settings.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels become white. Choose WebP output to keep transparency with small file sizes.
Which quality should I choose?
85–90% keeps photos virtually identical. Go down to 75% for web thumbnails.
Should I convert screenshots to JPG?
Only if they mostly show photos or video frames. Screenshots of text, code or user interfaces look sharper and are often smaller as PNG or WebP, because JPEG adds faint noise around sharp edges.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser and your images never leave your device.
Can I convert a folder of PNGs to JPG?
Yes. Choose “Select folder” and every PNG in it, including subfolders, is converted. File names stay the same with a .jpg extension.
Will my images lose quality?
JPEG is lossy, so a tiny amount of detail is discarded. At 86% quality the difference from the PNG is not visible at normal viewing size; use the comparison slider to check before downloading.
